Creative Writing

Soooo we had to do a creative writing thing this week for English class. This is NOT my strong point at all. hahaha, so don't judge on the story. well, I hope you enjoy, or, at least aren't bored to tears reading this.

Setting: Bowling Alley

Details: A stolen Item

Character: A woman trying to learn another language.

One night, in the Squires Breakzone, a group of foreign exchanged students rented all the lanes for the evening. They were bowling with other foreign exchanged students and their hosts for their time at Virginia Tech. Now, the majors of these students ranged from Engineering, to Mathematics, to Psychology. The on e major that surprised everybody was the one girl, Julia, whose plan was to major in English. She had come to Virginia Tech all the way from Thailand in order to major in English. This was surprising for multiple reasons: she had never really spoken English in her life and the English she did speak was extremely broken, Virginia Tech is not one of the leaders in the English field like they are in the Engineering field, and lastly, she had no idea what a Hokie was.

As the night went on everybody was having a great time. There was bowling, music, food, pool, and just overall fun activities. Unfortunately, the night took a turn for the worst. Julia went to the restroom. When she came back, she realized that her cell phone, cash, and passport had been stolen out of her purse. Now, this was a serious problem. Since she had just gotten to the States from Thailand, those were the only things she had. Without those, it would be difficult to live in the States.

Luckily for her, the doors had been locked from the outside because they didn’t want anybody to wonder off. After a bit of searching and interrogating it was determined that one of her best friends had taken her items. It was meant only to be a practical joke but unfortunately got blown out of proportion.

Hokie Basketball

So, as you may remember from one of my earlier posts, I'm a huge UNC Tarheel basketball fan. But, now that I go to school at Virginia Tech, I've started to follow their basketball team a lot more. An quite honestly, they aren't too shabby. I mean, sure they don't have too many "quality wins" but the team is full of talent. Especially #23 Malcolm Delany. He is the leading scorer in the ACC averaging about 20 points per game. The man has skills. We also have #0 Jeff Allen. He's a huge presence in the middle and also has an outside game. Then there are other players like Dorenzo Hudson and Bell who add their own little piece to the team.

Now, I did wear UNC Blue to the UNC v. Tech game (don't hate, I still have plenty of Hokie Pride, trust me). When I went to the game I realized that it wasn't just the football games that have a great atmosphere, but the basketball games as well. When the team is introduced the place is rockin'. Then Enter Sandman gets played and the place goes nuts. People are jumping up and down and getting psyched for the game that is about to start. The sense of unity and community that that song brings to this campus and to Hokie Nation is just unreal.

Now, I went to the Clemson game the following Sunday. I was one of those fools that you may have seen waiting in the MASSIVE line on Washington Street. My friends and I waited in line for over an hour to get into that game; it was well worth it. This time I was cheering for the Hokies, WOO! The team I was cheering for made a bi difference in the atmosphere to me. Last time it felt as if I was all alone in the crowd; this time I felt connected. I realize now why Virginia Tech is one of the hardest places to play in the country . Those in the maroon and orange are connected, those in the visitor colors are stranded. This is a very unique this in college sports. Make sure you get out to some tech sporting events in your lifetime!!!

WHO DAT!

In case you didn't know, the Superbowl was yesterday! It was a great game. Saints v. Colts, the 2 teams that went the majority of the season undefeated. The Colts were picked by virtually every sports anchor to win this game. Very few people were giving the Saints any credit at all for the amazing season they had. Everyone was talking about how good Peyton Manning was and how the Saints' defense was gonna have a tough time stopping him. But, everyone forgot about Drew Brees. Drew Brees is just as good if not better than Peyton. No one talked about Drew though. No one gave him any respect at all.

Now, with the way the game started it looked like all of the sports anchors and fans were right, the Colts were gonna blow the Saints right out of the water. The Colts went out to an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Peyton was playing just how everybody expected him to. He was moving the ball down the field no problem. He couldn't be stopped...until the second quarter. In the second quarter both the Saints offense and defense stepped it up. Although the Saints didn't get a touchdown, the Colts didn't even score. The score going into halftime was Colts 10 and Saints 6.

I don't know about you, but for me the second half is kinda just a big blur. Not to many plays stand out until you get closer to the end of the game. The Saints had just scored a touchdown and were going for the 2 point conversion. Drew Brees threw the ball to his receiver who made an INSANE catch. He caught it but when he hit the ground he lost control. But, before he completely lost control, he grabbed the ball basically by his fingertips and stretched into the endzone for the successful 2 point conversion.

Now, Peyton and the colts had the ball. They were driving down the field. The couldn't be stopped by ANYONE on the Saints defense....except Pierre Thomas. Pierre basically put the nail in the coffin by intercepting a pass and returning it for a touchdown putting the Saints up by 2 touchdowns. Now, isn't it kinda funny how the man that everyone said was going to win the Superbowl for the Colts, actually lost it for them? I found it quite humorous myself hahaha.

The Saints and the Who Dat Nation finally got the Superbowl that they had been longing for and desperately needed.

UNC - Champs to Chumps :(

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely LOVE Tarheel Basketball...but lately they have been struggling. Especially in ACC play. Last year, everyone had them as their favorite going into the season. This year they were in the top 10 for a bit. Then, they started playing conference teams. The Tarheels have an in conference record of 2-4 and were handed their worst home loss since 2003 against UVA this past Sunday. I mean, that's the worst possible team to have that happen to besides Duke. By the way, just gonna put this out there, I absolutely hate duke and everyone associated with them. I REALLY REALLY do not like duke. Like, there is just something about Coach K and the players on the team and the way that they play that just really irks me. Like, they get ALL the calls, they can hand check whenever they want to and it's just ridiculous...sorry about that haha.

Back to the struggling UNC....poor guys. I mean, they went from having Tyler Hansbrough, Danny Green, Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington to having 5 or 6 freshman that have to get significant playing time. SO, I guess when you think about it that way, their conference record is somewhat acceptable. But, after the past four years at least of success it is weird to have a year such as this. For the past four years Cameron Indoor Stadium (Duke's Home Court) has been owned by Hansbrough and the Tarheels. Now that he and the other 3 leading scorers from last years National Championship have moved on to the NBA, UNC has to rebuild. And, basically, that's what this year is. A rebuilding year. Now, once all of these freshman have a year under their belts UNC will be a force to reckon with, so watch out.

Now, as some of you may know, UNC travels down to Blacksburg this Thursday to take on the Hokies in an ACC match up. Although this is no approved of by the majority of my friends, I WILL be cheering for UNC this Thursday, and I WILL be wearing Carolina blue in the student section. Now, this may not b a good decision when it come to my physical well being, but I've got to stay loyal to my boys.

So, I'll leave you and that note and, of course, GO TARHEELS!!!!
