I really, really, really, REALLY hate Duke. Like, I do not have this much hate for any other person, thing, anything of any kind on the planet. Now, this is probably mostly due to the fact that I am a UNC fan. Or maybe it's because Coach K is a jerk. Regardless of the reason, I hate them. Let's look at their performance in the NCAA tournament for some examples of classic Duke. While they are running over the #16 seed in their section of the bracket (Duke ended up winning 73-44) they play their walk-ons for no more than 2 minutes. 2 of their big 3 (the big 3 being Schyer, Singler, and Smith) Schyer and Smith played 34 and 35 minutes respectively. Now, WHY do you play your starters for that long when you are up by so much? Wouldn't it be smart to let your younger players get in the game and get some playing time? NOPE! That's not how Coach K's mind works. Coach K has to destroy anyone and anything that gets in his way. No.Class.
Another thing that REALLY irks me about Duke and especially Coach K is the reffing in the games. Think about it. Duke always seems to get their way at home, or whenever Coach K opens his mouth on the road. Whenever Coach K gets upset about some calls, he gets all up in the refs face and the calls start to go his way and ONLY his way. It's like they are scared of him. I mean, any other coach argues like that they get T'd up. Coach K does it, and it's like the refs apologizes and then makes up for it for the rest of the game.
Now that they won the tourney, we won't hear the end of it until the end of the tourney next year. Wonderful...and on top of this I have a flat tire hahaha. Today sucks

WBC
So, The WBC is coming to Virginia Tech on April 9th. This issue has caused a lot of tension in the Virginia Tech campus over the past week or so. People have been wondering what should we do, should we do anything, and why are they even coming here?
According to the WBC, they are coming here because they feel that Virginia Tech deserves what happened on April 16th, 2007 because we are all sinners. I have a couple of things to say about this. One question is why do they have to come here to tell us we deserve this? Couldn’t this be done in a statement or something? Nope. That isn’t good enough for them. They have to make a huge scene with signs that don’t even pertain to the incident. Whenever they protest their signs say things like God Hates Fags” or “God Hates America”. The majority of the time these signs are not relevant to the issue they are protesting in the first place.
If their signs are relevant, why protest? They way I see it is that this is all just one big stunt. No matter what the community’s reaction to their protest is, they will get on TV and get publicity. They go to places like Virginia Tech and the funerals of our fallen soldiers in order to fulfill their need to be seen and heard. That’s just a load of crap. If you are doing what you believe God wants you to do, why do you belittle the families of fallen soldiers? Why would you go to the place of the biggest mass murder in modern US history to tell the community deserves it? Does God believe that those 32 people deserved to be shot? Does the WBC even believe that those people deserved to be shot?
The whole reason that these people and people like them do what they do, in my opinion, is just to get recognized. I feel like the majority of the awful, mean, and hurtful things they say aren’t even sincere. I feel like they just say things in order to draw attention to themselves. Also, they say things that will cause a reaction from the people where they are protesting. Now, what happens when they cause a raucous? People get angry. What happens when people get angry? They fight. What happen when you fight the WBC? They sue you and make bunches of money.
Now, if we can’t fight them, what can we do? There are a lot of ways we can combat the WBC and their crazy antics peacefully. Some things that groups in the past have done include making signs, like the WBC’s, that are absolutely pointless. I have seen some pictures of people who made signs that say things such as “They guy behind me can’t see” and “This is a ridiculous hat” with an arrow pointing to the person’s hat. These signs took attention away from the WBC. Another idea was that you can set up a stand across the street from the WBC that is raising money for foundation that directly help the people that the WBC protests against such as soldiers.
So I guess what I’m saying is be nice to the WBC. Yes, they are a bunch of crazy people and they will say some things that will make us angry. But, ignore them. Wave and say hi. Donate money to charities to combat them or make a crazy sign. Just, don’t hit them. Don’t touch them. By doing so you will be unintentionally aiding their crazy antics. We just need to come together on April 9th as one community, like we have done so often, and show these WBC jerks what Hokie Spirit is!
